CONO Kaasmakers is a small, member-owned cooperative of dairy farmers established over 125 years ago and based in Beemster, Noord-Holland. The cooperative operates its own cheesemaking facility where member farmers supply high-quality milk that is transformed into cheese and distinctive dairy ingredients. The company produces cheese for retail distribution through specialty cheese shops, markets and cheese tasting programs, and supplies cheese and dairy ingredients to the food industry, including dairy used in ice cream production. Production follows traditional, artisanal recipes developed specifically for CONO. The cooperative emphasizes sustainable practices across the entire supply chain, including pasture grazing for cattle (averaging 185 days of grazing in 2025), biodiversity initiatives, and ethical treatment of animals and workers. CONO markets cheese under its own Beemster brand for both consumer and professional foodservice channels. The company maintains a commitment to providing fair milk prices to its member farmers to support continued investment in sustainability and animal welfare at the farm level.
