Jan Becher Karlovarska Becherovka

Pernod Ricard Karlovy Vary Becherovka herbal liqueur producer.

Jan Becher, operating as Karlovarská Becherovka, is a Czech spirits producer based in Karlovy Vary. The company manufactures Becherovka Original, a herbal bitter spirit formulated from approximately twenty varieties of herbs and spices combined with Karlovy Vary water, high-quality alcohol and natural sugar, alongside multiple flavored variants including orange-ginger, lemon, grapefruit-hops, and lime-basil expressions. The recipe, established in 1807 by Josef Vitus Becher from a formula by Dr. Christian Froberig, remains proprietary and is known to only two people. Production takes place at a modern facility opened in 2010 in the Bohatice district of Karlovy Vary, equipped with contemporary technology and capable of producing approximately 8 million litres annually, with over half destined for export. The spirit is filled into glass bottles in the company's signature flat green bottle design, established in 1907. The company holds trademark protection for both the Czech name Becherovka and German equivalent Becher Bitter, registered since 1922.
