Metaxa SA (Rémy Cointreau)

Iconic Greek brandy/spirit blend; now part of Rémy Cointreau.

Metaxa was created in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa in Athens and has been based in Kifissia since 1968. The company is known for its distinctive amber spirits combining three key elements: sweet Muscat wines from Aegean islands, fine aged wine distillates, and an aromatic blend of Mediterranean herbs and botanicals. Each expression in the product range is individually crafted by a designated METAXA Master, with complexity and production time increasing across the range. The company's product portfolio includes spirits at different age points—METAXA 5 Stars, 7 Stars, 12 Stars, Private Reserve Orama, Angels' Treasure Single Cask Strength, and AEN III—alongside METAXA Ouzo and recent entries including METAXA Greek Orange (fruit-flavored variant) and METAXA Greek Cocktails ready-to-drink offerings. The website indicates operations involve vineyards producing Muscat wine and cellars for aging and blending. Metaxa became part of the Rémy Cointreau group in 2000.
