Monasterolo di Savigliano, Italy
Monge & C.
Major dry and wet pet food producer offering private-label.
Monge & C. is based in Monasterolo di Savigliano in Piedmont and has operated since 1963, when founder Baldassarre Monge introduced steamed poultry-based pet food as an alternative to table scraps. The company established the first modern pet food facility in Italy and pioneered several manufacturing innovations including easy-open canned formats (1975), canned wet food trays for cats (1989), and oven-baked kibble production (1994). The company operates two main production facilities. In 2005, it inaugurated a dedicated wet food plant with annual capacity for over 213 million cans and 110 million trays. In 2013, a new dry food facility was commissioned with production capacity of 127,000 tonnes annually. The company produces extruded, pressed and baked dry kibble formats, as well as wet food in cans, trays and pouches. A 2008 initiative began production of 100g pouches for cats, described as the first and only production line for this format in southern Europe. Since 2020, the company has operated an automated logistics centre with 43,000-pallet capacity. The company manufactures steel cans in-house, a step taken since 2007 to reduce logistics costs and emissions. Product lines include monoproteic formulations and veterinary diet ranges. The company holds EU funding recognition for food sector research and development initiatives.
