RAR - Refinarias de Açúcar Reunidas, S.A. was founded in 1962 in Porto as a consolidation of nine small sugar refineries from northern Portugal. In 1973, the acquisition of Refinaria Angola established it as a leading national operator. The company operates a single industrial refinery focused on quality, food safety and environmental performance, holding certified Quality Management Systems, Food Safety Systems and Environmental Management Systems. RAR Açúcar was the first Iberian company in its sector to obtain IFS Food certification.
The company refines and distributes a diversified range of cane sugar products from raw cane material for various market applications and customer segments including food manufacturers, packers, wholesalers, resellers and foodservice distributors. Its product portfolio carries multiple certifications: Kosher, Halal, Vegan, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and Ecocert recognition as an importer, refiner and distributor of organic cane sugar. The company is in the process of obtaining Bonsucro certification. RAR Açúcar employs 254 people and generated sales of €72.4 million in 2025.
