Founded in the 1970s in Oliveira de Azeméis, Valente Marques operates under the Caçarola brand and has over 50 years of history. The company produces a wide range of rice types including carolino, agulha, basmati, integral, sushi, biological and exotic varieties, alongside pasta and dried cooked legumes. In 1980 the company installed a steamed rice (vaporized rice) production unit, described as the only one in Portugal. In 2011, Caçarola launched a new product line of rice and corn crackers branded CRACKIES, formulated as gluten-free and low-calorie products made from 100% Portuguese raw materials. The company operates private label manufacturing services and has invested in silo capacity to handle increased volumes of paddy rice storage and processing. Caçarola maintains product traceability by partnering with farmers through the supply chain from seed selection through drying and storage. The company holds IFS Food certification and ISO 22000:2005 food safety certification. Since 2009 Caçarola has pursued internationalization, with exports representing approximately 18% of business volume.
