Castel Group

Family-owned (since 1949) multi-site major bottler for wine, beer and water — branded plus MDD.

Castel Frères, founded in 1949 and based in Bordeaux, is the world's third-largest wine company and France's leading producer. The company operates across three business divisions: Castel Châteaux & Grands Crus, which manages 20 family estates totalling 1,000 hectares and acts as a negociant for 400 grand crus wines from Bordeaux and beyond; Maison Castel, offering seven ranges of consumer wines from French terroirs at accessible prices for on-trade and off-trade distribution; and various brand creations including Roche Mazet (the world's number-one French wine brand), Baron de Lestac, and Plessis-Duval. The company operates 7 wineries across France's major wine regions (Bordeaux, Provence, Loire, Languedoc) and maintains 45 bottling lines for bottles and bag-in-box formats. Castel Frères holds 680 million euros in annual turnover (2022) and serves 6,000 customers across multiple channels.

The company holds environmental certifications including Terra Vitis, organic agriculture (AB), and High Environmental Value (HVE) labels. Approximately 100 hectares are certified sustainable, with 152.7 hectares managed under organic agriculture. Castel Frères adheres to the UN Global Compact since 2019 and has implemented ISO 50001 energy management certification at two production facilities. The company has invested in lightweight bottles for main brands, reducing glass usage by 900 tonnes annually, and reports over 89 percent waste valorisation at production facilities. On its properties, pesticide use has been discontinued since 2019 across 98 percent of vineyards, and 23 beehives were installed in 2022 as part of biodiversity efforts.
