Castello

Arla-owned blue and specialty cheese brand.

Castello was founded in 1893 by Danish master cheesemaker Rasmus Tholstrup and is based in Denmark. The company produces cheeses including creamy whites, blue mould types, Havarti, Cheddar, and cream cheese varieties. The brand is known for innovations such as Castello Creamy White (created 1944) and Castello Creamy Blue (introduced 1969). In 1958, the company expanded by acquiring several dairies across Denmark. Castello cheeses are made in Denmark as well as select dairies globally, using traditional Danish and Scandinavian cheesemaking techniques combined with modern methods. The brand was acquired by Arla Foods in 2006 and is now sold in more than 50 countries. The website indicates the company emphasizes craftsmanship, consistency, careful ripening, and attention to texture in production.
