Macedonian Thrace Brewery SA operates from the Komotini industrial zone and produces the Vergina brand of beers. The brewery was founded on February 1, 1996 by Dimitri Politopoulos and began bottling the first Vergina beer on February 13, 1998, marking what the company describes as the start of the independent micro-brewing revolution in Greece. The company has vertically integrated its operations to achieve its stated goal of producing 100% genuine Greek beer from Greek-sourced raw materials, including establishing Thrace Malt to supply malts that the company uses in all its beers. The brewery operates modern production facilities and offers public visits to its location in Komotini, where visitors can learn about the brewing process and sample the full range of Vergina varieties, which include Lager, Red, Weiss, Porfyra (limited edition), Black, Alcohol Free, Honey & Spice, and Radler.
