NPPC VUP Bratislava

NPPC – Odbor potravinárstva (Food Research Department of the National Agricultural and Food Centre), based in Bratislava and operating sites in Modra, is a public research organization established in 1950. The department conducts research and development across food chemistry, analytical chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and food processing technologies, with a focus on food quality, safety and new production methods. It operates the central food library of Slovakia's agriculture ministry, maintains a collection of food microorganisms, and manages a national food composition database coordinating networks across Central and Eastern Europe. The institute provides consulting on food legislation, hygiene, technology specification and EU protected designation applications, and hosts the Biocentrum Modra facility for pilot-scale process verification and technology testing. It undertakes state contracts, EU-funded research projects and international bilateral collaborations, contributes to EU food safety strategy implementation, and publishes the Journal of Food and Nutrition Research and Trendy v potravinárstve (Food Industry Trends). The institute provides training and doctoral supervision in accredited programmes and supports the food industry with risk assessment, laboratory analysis and technical advice.
