Smögen Whisky AB was founded in 2009 and is located on the farmstead of Ståleröd, southeast of Hunnebostrand on Sweden's west coast. The distillery focuses on high-quality single malt whisky with pronounced malty character and peat notes, using manual production methods and hands-on process monitoring throughout. Since 2020, the company has predominantly used Swedish heavily peated and floor malted barley for its spirit production.
The distillery's output consists of single cask bottlings and very limited volume batch bottlings, which are not replicated to maintain maximum quality and character rather than consistency. All production, warehousing and bottling operations are carried out on the farmstead site. The company offers distillery tours and tastings, with visitor access available during summer months and by pre-booking during off-season periods.
