Alelor

Family-owned (since 1873) last Alsace mustard maker — branded and private label specialty toll.

Alélor is the last mustard maker in Alsace and the only company in France transforming fresh horseradish roots. The family business, founded in 1873 and based in Mietesheim with 20 employees, manufactures mustards in multiple varieties (sweet, strong, spiced, and regional flavours), horseradish products, sauces including mayonnaises and spicy condiments, and pickled vegetables. The company sources Alsatian mustard seeds from about thirty local farmer partners and hand-sorts and cuts horseradish roots traditionally. Mayonnaises and sauces are made with French free-range eggs and no artificial preservatives. Pickles and gherkins are hand-harvested daily and prepared fresh according to Alsatian sweet-and-sour traditions, sourced from France or Germany. Alélor holds the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label and supports local agricultural filières through collaboration with the Alsace Chamber of Agriculture. The company emphasizes waste reduction, renewable energy use, and transparent recipes with increasing focus on organic and locally-sourced ingredients.
