Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is an open-access Belgian multi-purpose pilot and demonstration facility in Ghent offering contract scale-up services for plant-protein extraction, mycoprotein and precision-fermentation processes, from lab through multi-tonne demonstration scale.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is an independent, multi-purpose pilot facility based in Ghent, Belgium that operates from laboratory scale to multi-ton capacity. It serves companies developing biobased biochemicals, biomaterials, biofuels and other bioproducts. The facility offers three core services: process development, scale-up, and custom manufacturing.
The company provides modular unit operations including biomass pretreatment, biocatalysis, precision fermentation (up to 75,000 L), biomass fermentation (up to 75,000 L), gas fermentation, green chemistry and product recovery and purification (downstream processing). It maintains analytical capabilities and a cell culture laboratory on-site. Additional services include scalability consulting, techno-economical analysis, engineering services, public project support, and participation in networking and matchmaking initiatives.
The facility holds Quality and Food Safety certifications and is recognized for the French Crédit d'Impôt Recherche (CIR) scheme. The organization supports bilateral projects, consortium-based projects and internal technology development work.
