BLC3 (Campus de Tecnologia e Inovação) is a non-profit association based in Oliveira do Hospital with three operational hubs located in Oliveira do Hospital, Alfândega da Fé, and Ourique. The organization operates as a research and development center focusing on bioeconomy, biotechnology, and sustainable innovation, with particular emphasis on fermentation technologies, biomass valorization, food innovation, mycology, agro-food sector development, and cork oak woodlands applications. The center maintains a network of 75 technical-scientific partners across 12 European countries and operates 55 R&D projects. BLC3 provides services including business incubation (supporting over 20 companies), technology support, and business hosting facilities. The organization employs 123 researchers and scientists, has created over 120 jobs, and has invested €38 million since its founding in 2011. It holds 12 intellectual and industrial property processes and maintains cooperation agreements with 42 companies. BLC3 receives support from Portuguese national funding (FCT) and European Union funding through Next Generation EU programs.
