Sodiaal Union

Major cooperative-owned MDD producer (since 1990) — Candia, Entremont, Yoplait, Régilait — across 70 French sites for milk, cheese, yoghurt and powders.

Sodiaal is a French dairy cooperative founded in 1963 and headquartered in Lyon, with more than 10,000 farming members who collectively own the company. The cooperative operates under a cooperative governance model in which members serve as both suppliers and decision-makers, owning shares of the cooperative capital (capital social). The cooperative collects French milk from member farmers and operates multiple processing facilities producing a range of dairy products across several categories: fluid milk, cream, butter, cheeses (including Emmental and Roquefort AOP), yogurt, ultra-fresh dairy products, and nutritional ingredients. Major consumer brands include Candia (milk and dairy drinks), Yoplait (yogurt), Entremont (cheese), and several regional brands such as Nature de Breton and Fromagerie Renard Gillard. The cooperative also operates Nactalia and Bonilait for nutritional and ingredient products, and Euroserum for serum-based ingredients. Sodiaal has committed to sustainability initiatives including a durability premium for member farmers transitioning to lower-carbon practices and targets a 30% reduction in absolute carbon emissions by 2030. The cooperative has obtained the RFAR label for responsible purchasing and emphasizes transparent relationships with suppliers. Sodiaal operates production sites across France including laiteries (dairy processing facilities) under the Candia brand in locations such as La Talaudière (Saint-Étienne), Awoingt, and others, producing pasteurized milk, infant formulas, organic mountain milk, and other dairy products.
