Lutosa SA (McCain Foods)

Belgian frozen-fries and potato-specialty producer; subsidiary of McCain Foods.

Founded in 1935 as a potato trader, Lutosa has evolved into a major processor of potato-based products with over 40 years of dedicated expertise. The company operates two fully integrated production sites in Belgium (Leuze-en-Hainaut and St-Eloois-Vijve), handling all transformation stages from raw potato through frozen and refrigerated products. Lutosa sources approximately 70% of potatoes locally from farms within a tight geographic radius of its production sites, reducing carbon footprint and ensuring supply chain traceability.

Production capabilities span frozen fries (including refrigerated variants), mashed potatoes in pellet form, speciality products, and dehydrated formats. The company operates multifunction lines offering flexibility for variations in coating, colour, peel treatment and oil type. Frozen storage is managed through two automated CIMAT freezers with 12-tier capacity held at -21°C, ensuring FIFO protocol compliance and continuous cold-chain integrity. Lutosa has implemented anaerobic biogas generation covering 105% of site energy needs and operates wastewater treatment stations at each facility.

The company holds multiple certifications including IFS (International Food Standard), BRC (British Retail Consortium), BIO, Halal, Kosher, FCA (Feed Chain Alliance), SMETA, ISO 50001 (energy management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). Quality assurance follows HACCP protocols with annual internal and external audits. In 2013 Lutosa was acquired by McCain Foods, establishing it as part of a global frozen food group while maintaining operations from its Belgian base.
