Thorverk hf operates from Reykhólar in western Iceland, specialising in the production of dried and milled seaweed from two kelp species: Ascophyllum and Laminaria sourced from the Breiðafjörður fjord. The company was founded in 1975 and re-established in 1986. Production uses geothermal water as the heat source for the drying process, combined with access to abundant seaweed grounds in the fjord. Both Ascophyllum and Laminaria product ranges are certified organic. The company holds USDA organic certification and TUN (Icelandic certification body) certification.
