Moulin de Roudun

French Brittany miller offering toll milling (mouture à façon) and stone-ground flour from local conventional and organic wheat.

Le Moulin de Roudun is a water-powered grain mill documented in records from 1546, located in Plémet (Poligné), Brittany. The mill was operated by the Souffleux family from 1760 until 2020, when it was taken over by Lionel Louasil to preserve the artisanal heritage. The mill grinds soft wheat, small spelt, rye, green lentils and barley into finished flours. Production encompasses bakery-grade flours (T45, T55, T65, T80, T110, T150), French Tradition flour meeting decree 93-1074, organic certified wheat and rye flours, and stone-milled varieties produced on a single pass. The mill sources 100 percent of wheat domestically, with a stated preference for supply within 100 km. Since 2021 it has produced organic flour; stone-milling began in 2023. The mill offers milling services for local farmers, custom blends, and bulk or bagged delivery within approximately 50 km. It operates its own retail shop open Wednesdays and Fridays. The mill uses natural hydroelectric power from the Semnon river and aims to optimize its 1927-installed turbine, which currently supplies 25 percent of energy consumption. The company has committed to carbon neutrality over three years and sources additional electricity from renewable sources.
